Newsic: (Not) A news app

I Claude Coded an app over the past couple weeks I’m quite proud of. Newsic!

This idea came about from an old memory I had of a show that aired in the early 2000’s in Central Florida called Newsic. I’ve never been able to find much info on this early morning show but watched it for as long as it aired (about 9-18 months). I was this show where they had music videos playing in the top right and weather/news tickers in the left over space. It was super ahead of its time I felt. Well when I realized the power of Claude Code I had to make my memory a reality. It has 4 channels. Channel 1 and 2 use YouTube playlist that can be changed in the app settings. Channel 3 is a SNES emulator with controller and save state functions, you can update rom folder and what rom is loaded in the app settings. Channel 4 is the only on channel that can not be manipulated with in app settings. Channel 4 is the 90’s anime channel where I pull playlist I have found on the Internet Archive.

In addition to the video window there is a weather, news, stock tickers. Weather and news run from an api key provided by the user (can be obtained with free api, respective, accounts). The stock ticket covers the big 3 and bulls from Yahoo’s publicly available finance api. There is also two themes right now, broadcast (original) and cyberpunk.
